Beyond the steady hum of machines, there’s a rhythm of tradition. Blacksmithing at Sea to Sky Welding brings back the age-old practice of forging metal by hand, the dance of hammer and anvil.
This revival of blacksmithing techniques is more than nostalgia. It’s a celebration of handcrafted excellence. From ornate gates and decorative railings to custom tools and heirloom-quality hardware, the blacksmith’s touch infuses every piece with character and soul. In an era of automation, this hands-on craftsmanship remains irreplaceable.
Here at Sea to Sky Welding, we’ve taken the ancient craft of blacksmithing — a trade that dates back to 1200 BC — and brought it into the modern age. With the help of our CNC plasma cutter, we create precision-cut blanks for leaves and flower petals, which are then individually detailed by hand. Each piece is forged, hammered, and shaped to bring out unique character and texture. For decorative railings, fences, and door coverings, we also produce custom vines in-house, each one hand-tapered to give the impression of flowing, organic movement. No corners are ever cut — we take pride in crafting one-of-a-kind designs that will never be reproduced exactly the same way again.
One example is our decorative door coverings, which feature hand-twisted square bars notched seamlessly together for a flawless finish. At every intersection, a client-selected flower was custom-shaped to match the natural twist of the bars. Each dogwood flower was finished with a special technique to inlay brass over its center, creating a striking detail. Even the hinges were thoughtfully concealed behind the frame so the door could function without disrupting the piece’s overall design.
Our latest creation is a gothic-inspired fence with intricate leaf and vine work woven throughout. Within it, a hidden gate is seamlessly integrated, complete with self-closing hinges and a custom latch.
At Sea to Sky Welding, our philosophy is simple: if you can dream it, we can build it.
Individually forged details, all by hand and shaped using our forge and hammered on our anvils.
